One of the most resonating things that was ever said to me was told to me by a friend who was happy I got a promotion. I doubt he realized the weight those words would have on a young idealistic man. It was in that moment that I realized that I have to protect my people. Whoever “them” may be, you can’t forget where you came from or step on the backs of the people that helped you get there. Often I have seen people corrupted by a little power. Don’t forget that whatever your position is the people under you are depending on you. Trusting that you will take care of them. That you will carry them with you. Leadership is a burden not a privilege. Because you are leader you are not entitled to anything. You are tasked with saying “follow me” and cleaving the damn path so your people can get ahead too. When you take care of your pack your pack will take care of you.
