My take on the OODA loop

The OODA Loop is a military thought process that’s used for basically every situation. I will spare you the history lesson but if you’re interested your lazy ass can look it up on wikipedia, the world’s at your fingertips use the internet to your advantage.  OODA loop is an acronym that stands for observe, orient, decide and act.  Over time it becomes an unconscious thought process that constantly reacts to new stimuli always going never stopping.

Observe: those pretty peepers just aren’t the gateway to the soul use them to survey the scene. Here’s a practical exercise: Close your eyes. Turn around and open them, what do you see? Look around for things that stick out.  Is something out of place? Is something dangerous? Is something the wrong color? Is something dirty?  There is constant stimuli be observant.

Orient: I’m not talking about the Chinese here.  Orient as in direction.  Youre basically faced with two choices Do I move to act or do I beat feet and get the fuck out of here.

Decide: After you’ve seen whatever has popped up in your observation now it is time to decide what the fuck youre going to do.  Are you gonna attack? Are you going to run?  Are you going to stop the toddler from sticking a fork into an outlet or laugh as he learns a potentially fatal life lesson?  Make the choice.

Act:  Here is where everything comes together.  Now you’re going to accomplish whatever you’ve decided to do.  Execute the maneuvers and  accomplish the task.  Or Retreat like a bitch.

Use this and practice it. You will accomplish so much more.  There is never “nothing to do”
